Few cities can have had so much written about it than Paris. The Eiffel Tower is magnificent, the Louvre is fascinating and the Notre Dame is deeply spiritual but there is so much more to the City of Light and Love than its famous landmarks.
The River Seine creates a natural divide between the different characters of Paris. There's the gargoyles and exquisite architecture of the Ile de la Citι, the beauty of Sainte-Chapelle, the Conciergerie with legends of the guillotine and charming Ile Saint-Louis.
On the Left Bank, the Latin Quarter is home to the Sorbonne with its book stalls, collection of galleries and street performers in Saint-Germain-des-Prιs. Montparnasse is a great place for people-watching. Climb to the top of the 954-foot Eiffel Tower or take the lift for panoramic views of the city, and see Napoleons tomb in the Eglise du Dτme.
On the Right Bank the Etoile, with the Arc de Triomphe, is the centre piece of the city. The 12-pointed star is formed by some of the worlds most prestigious boulevards, including the Champs Elysιes with the Lido and its Bluebell Girls, and the Place de la Concorde and Tuileries Gardens.
Getting around is easy. The Paris Metro is extensive, good value and runs from around 5.30am until midnight. Buses run from 6.30am-9pm, while the RER provides a fast train link to the city from the suburbs.
