Correze is a rural retreat
enjoying splendid, unspoiled countryside with over 5,000 kms
of rivers including the Vergeze, the Correze and the Dordogne
plus over 40 lakes.
It is well suited to those who enjoy outdoor pursuits like
fishing, walking and canoeing. Eastwards towards the Massif
Central, the landscape becomes wilder and mountainous.
Coussac-Bonneval is a small town with a population of 1,600 lying in a beautiful setting and having a fine 14th century castle.
Creuse is located in the Massif Central and with the Creuse River and its tributaries running through. The major tourist attractions are the tapestry museum in Aubusson and the castles of Villemontaix, Boussac, and Banizette.
The river is dammed at several locations both for water and hydroelectricity generation. Creuse has relatively cold winters with some snow into April but also hot summers although rain does fall throughout the year.
